New Kid on the Block

Posted: 2009-08-24

We have a new kid on our block, well, actually in our store.  Cassie is our new design consultant-in training.  She will join Veronica as another member of our showroom staff; these are our go-to gals who can help you with planning your next event with great suggestions about linens and tabletop ideas.

Cassie may be new, but she has passed our "initiation" so far.  She had to create two designs for our showroom floor....all on her first day of work.

Road Trip

Posted: 2009-08-03

What is summer without a vacation or a road trip?  After a full wedding season, Valarie and I have finally found a small gap in our schedule.  Just the right size for a road trip.

This week we are going to Austin for the day.  A full day.  First we are attending the monthly meeting of the Association of Wedding Professionals, closely affiliated with Nuptial Essentials, an Austin-based wedding planning school.  We plan to network with other wedding and event planners, share ideas and evaluate their wedding planner certification program.

Next, we are attending the launch of "Premiere Party Central."  One of our fellow rental companies, Austin Party Central, recently merged with Premier Events and Tents to become Austin's largest rental company.  To celebrate their new name, new logo and new location, they are throwing a party...how appropos!  We are looking forward to a tour of the recently remodeled store as well as networking with Austin's top event professionals and the fabulous, ever helpful staff of PPC!

We hope to bring back some new ideas for fall weddings and events in San Angelo.

Wedding Season is upon us

Posted: 2009-03-31

During this season, as many of you are getting excited about your special day, what your dress will look like, how fun your reception will be...don't forget about the great guy you are about to marry!

Here is a great article from our local newspaper, San Angelo Standard-Times, with some tips for staying married directed to your husband-to-be, so remember to substitute "him" for "her".  It takes two.

-------------------------

1. Always put her first - before work, friends, even basketball. Act as if she's the best thing that ever happened to you, because we all know she is.

2. Keep no secrets. Pool your money. Allow nothing and no one to come between you.

3. Pick your fights with care. Play fair. Show some class. Hurtful words can be forgiven, but they're hard to forget.

4. Fall in love again every day. Kiss her in taxis. Flirt with her at parties. Tell her she's beautiful. Then tell her again.

5. Never miss an anniversary or a birthday or a chance to make a memory. Memories may not seem important now, but one day they'll be gold.

6. Never give her a practical gift. If she really wants a Shop-Vac, let her pick it out herself.

7. Go to church together, and pray every day for each other and your marriage.

8. Pay your bills on time and make sure you each have a living will, a durable power of attorney and life insurance, lest, God forbid, you need them.

9. Love her parents as your own, but don't ask them for money. Never criticize her family or friends. On her birthday, send flowers to her mother with a note saying, "Thank you for giving birth to the love of my life."

10. Always listen to her heart; if you're wrong, say you're sorry; if you're right, shut up.

11. Don't half-tie the knot; plan to stay married forever.

12. Never go to bed mad; talk until you're over it, or you forget why you were mad.

13. Laugh together a lot. If you can laugh at yourselves, you'll have plenty to laugh about.

14. Never criticize, correct or interrupt her in public; try not to do it in private either.

15. Remember that people are the least lovable when they are most in need of love.

16. Never fall for the myth of perfectionism; it's a lie.

17. When you don't like each other, remember that you love each other; pray for the "good days" to return and they will.

18. Tell the truth, only the truth, with great kindness.

19. Kiss at least 10 seconds a day, all at once or spread out.

20. Memorize all her favorite things and amaze her with how very well you know her.

21. Examine your relationship as often as you change the oil in your car; keep steering it on a path you both want it to go.

22. Be content with what you have materially, honest about where you are emotionally, and never stop growing spiritually.

23. Never raise your voice unless you're on fire. Whisper when you argue.

24. Be both friends and lovers; in a blackout, light a candle, then make your own sparks.

25. Finally, be an interesting person, lead your own life. But always save your best for each other. In the end, you will know you were better together than you ever could've been apart.

Here's to happily ever after!

Show Time in Vegas

Posted: 2009-03-09

(This week’s blog entry comes to us from our wedding planner, Valarie Garcia.)

What happens in Vegas doesn't have to stay in Vegas!  Recently I attended the world's largest convention about events and catering, hosted by CaterSource and Event Solutions in Las Vegas.   During the five day conference, I met wedding and event professionals from the east coast, west coast, and everywhere in between.

My favorite seminar was The Seven Wonders of the Table.  Now I have seen the wonders:  incredible linens from Wildflower Linens of San Francisco, paired with fabulous floral by Couture Flowers Design Studio of Newport Beach, and lighted by LA event designer, Rrivre Davies.

Check out this wonderful table with Wildflower Linens.

What is a Preferred Vendor?

Posted: 2009-01-26

On our website, we have a dedicated page for our Preferred Vendors.  These are event professionals that we have worked with in the past and continue to collaborate with day in and day out, to create great events for our customers.  We are happy to recommend their services to our customers as we know the quality of their work and that we can count on them to deliver on their promises.

For example, we were so pleased when a couple of our Preferred Vendors decided to join us at the 2009 West Texas Bridal Show.  Their memorable displays in our booth stopped traffic.  Actually, our "booth" was a 20' X 30' tent complete with tables, decor and speciality lighting.  Thanks again to Shirley Floral, Halfmann's Cake Cottage and River Terrace Restaurant for turning our booth into a party!

See Shirley Floral's 10 foot tall STUNNING floral chandelier designed by Vickie Enriquez and Carla Morua

See Halfmann's Cake Cottage 6 foot tall MAJESTIC cake with marzipan fruit and crystal accents designed by Annabelle

Visit River Terrace Restaurant's site and ask Chef Earl about the amazing Thai Beef appetizer

(We have been asked "Are these the only florists, photographers, caterers, etc. that you will work with?"  We are happy to work with any event professionals suggested by our client.)

Weddings, Tents & Presidential Events

Posted: 2009-01-18

In the middle of our preparations for the West Texas Bridal Expo, we had to STOP . . . and redirect our efforts.

We received word that we had been chosen to assist with the festivities surrounding the Midland, Texas homecoming for President George W. Bush.  Following the morning’s inauguration ceremonies in Washington, DC, the Bushes immediately travelled to their hometown of Midland for a welcoming celebration.  The January 20th afternoon event was coordinated by Loud and Clear, Inc. from Cincinatti, Ohio who selected Angelo Events & Tents to provide tents for the Bush family.

We have done some large-scale tent jobs before, but this one will be hard to top.  We were pleased to represent San Angelo at this historical event.

Watch the Tent Gallery for future photos.

Lights, Event, Action!

Posted: 2008-10-26

Are you wanting to give an old venue a new look?

Think lighting.

Of all event decorative effects, lighting has the greatest power to transform a venue, create drama and set a mood.  Wanting a soft romantic mood?  Use lots of candles, soft amber uplighing and perhaps a lace pattern projected on a wall.  Looking for a blend of classic and contemporary?  Try uplighting in a bolder color, like deep blue or purple, and a custom monogram on the dance floor.  Want to kick up the dance floor and get your guests moving?  Try some of our moving lights which change colors, patterns, positions and respond to the beat of the music.

For more ideas, see pictures in our Gallery of Lighting  or see videos of our moving lights

Or, see a video of what Preston Bailey, designer to the stars, has to say about event lighting

Bright Lights, Big City

Posted: 2008-10-06

The Big City?  Dallas.  The Bright Lights?  Our newest “find” – cool lighting effects.

During a recent trip to the DFW metroplex, we visited a lighting showroom and added some great lighting products to our inventory for the upcoming holiday party season.  With names like Waterfall, Groovy, Kalidescope and 360 Spot, our new lighting options will dazzle and intrigue you.  We also added a classic mirrored “Disco Ball” to add sparkle to your next party.  The white polyester suit is optional.

Pin Marks the Spot

Posted: 2008-10-01

How do you make your wedding cake or dinner tables more dazzling and glamourous?

Pin-spot them.

As seen on many of the cable shows about weddings and parties like Platinum Weddings, pin spotting is a great way to add some drama to your ballroom or venue.  A “pin spot” is a lighting device that highlights a specific area with beam of light (white light or colored light).  It makes centerpieces or special item, such as a decorated cake, really stand-out for that “wow” factor.

Fall for our New Showroom

Posted: 2008-09-11

Just as the leaves of the trees are starting to change from green and gold to orange and brown, we, too, like to change with the seasons.  We have selected some luxurious new tablecloths to dress our showroom in its own version of fall fashions.  In preparation for the upcoming holiday season of family gatherings, parties and celebrations, our showroom will display new ideas to help you make your next event festive and one-of-a-kind.  Keep a look-out...a colorful change is coming soon!

Finally! Wrinkles are a Good Thing.

Posted: 2008-09-10

Dazzling and refined yet relaxed and interesting.

No, we are not talking about your next dinner guest, but instead a clever fabric that is new to the party scene called "Crinkle."  This crushed taffeta has a shimmery iridescence that shines by candlelight dinner, and yet it is still casual enough for a wedding rehearsal dinner at the ranch.  This dual-personality fabric, like a fascinating dinner guest, brings interest and texture to the table.  Come by our Showroom to see samples and add a new wrinkle to your next event!

Available in:  bold fuschia, soft petal pink, watermelon, valentine red, bordeaux red, nectarine, fiery orange, golden wheat, apple, sage, moss, baby blue, turquoise, royal blue, lavender, chocolate brown, coppery brown, silver and black, white and ivory.
